How do you reach Kuri Village?
Drive 5 to 6 hours from Kathmandu via the Araniko and BP Highway through Charikot, then ascend an unpaved mountain road for 18 kilometers to reach Kuri.
Four-wheel-drive jeeps operate daily between Charikot and Kuri throughout the year.
From Kuri, visitors can take a modern 5-minute passenger cable car or hike 60 minutes up stone stairs to the Kalinchowk hilltop shrine at 3,842 m.
During peak winter snowfalls, jeeps require snow chains to navigate the final five kilometers of mountain road.
What makes Kalinchowk Bhagwati temple famous?
Perched dramatically on a narrow rocky pinnacle at 3,842 m, Kalinchowk Bhagwati is one of Nepal's most revered Hindu pilgrimage shrines, dedicated to the fierce Goddess Kali.
Pilgrims believe wishes asked with devotion at the open-air trident-filled altar are granted by the goddess.
The summit ridge provides extraordinary 360-degree views of Langtang, Gauri Sankar, Ganesh Himal, and Dorje Lakpa.
Sunrise at the temple illuminates the white snow summits while clouds fill the deep valleys below.
Why has Kuri become a winter wonderland getaway?
Located only 140 km east of Kathmandu, Kuri is the most accessible high-altitude destination from the capital to experience deep winter snow.
Between December and February, the bowl-shaped valley receives heavy snowfall, creating slopes for sledding and snow play.
The village features dozens of vibrant modern hotels with central heaters, evening bonfires, and barbecue dining.
Cable car rides glide high above snow-covered pine forests directly to the temple ridge.
