How does the Mohare Danda trek support local villages?
The trail was pioneered by Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Dr. Mahabir Pun to channel trekking income directly into rural community schools, organic farms, and health clinics without third-party middlemen taking profits.
All lodges on the ridge are owned cooperatively by the local Magar villages.
Profits provide scholarships and funding for wireless educational connections in mountain schools.
Trekkers eat locally harvested organic food cooked fresh in community kitchens.
Is Mohare Danda better than Poon Hill?
Mohare Danda sits at 3,300 m on the adjacent ridge, nearly 100 m higher than Poon Hill, and provides the same panoramic mountain views without the morning crowds of hundreds of visitors.
Poon Hill requires hiking up in the dark from Ghorepani at 4:30 AM to see the sunrise.
On Mohare Danda, the eco-lodge sits right on the summit ridge, allowing you to watch sunrise directly from your bedroom or dining room porch.
Trail traffic on Mohare is roughly one tenth of Poon Hill, preserving a peaceful wilderness feeling.
