Raw Wilderness
For those who want to get off the grid entirely.
The Makalu Barun National Park is one of the most strictly protected areas in Nepal. It is a place of dramatic contrasts, plunging from the 8,485-meter summit of Makalu to the Arun River valley at just 344 meters.
The Barun Valley is a sanctuary for rare species, and trekking here feels like an expedition into the unknown. Accommodation is basic, and self-sufficiency is often required.
